If my friend who forwarded this to me is wrong, please comment and correct. I believe it is basically correct. But money talks in Mexico so its possible some laws to some are not enforced. Same as in the U.S.
Similair also, as "money talks" in the U.S. Especially around election time.
Don't believe Arizona new law goes into effect until July??
Merle
Mexicans here and in Mexico are rather upset by the recent enactment of stricter anti-illegal alien laws by Arizona's governor.
In light of the following, that position demonstrates the typical double standard used by race-hustlers and assorted something-for-nothings. Read on, and read it to the end.
New Immigration Laws: Read to the bottom or you will miss the message...

Freddie Mac's Big Losses
The New York Times reports:
If you blinked, you might have missed the ugly first-quarter report last week from Freddie Mac, the mortgage finance giant that, along with its sister Fannie Mae, soldiers on as one of the financial world’s biggest wards of the state.Freddie — already propped up with $52 billion in taxpayer funds used to rescue the company from its own mistakes — recorded a loss of $6.7 billion and said it would require an additional $10.6 billion from taxpayers to shore up its financial position. The news caused nary a ripple in the placid Washington scene. Perhaps that’s because many lawmakers, especially those who once assured us that Fannie and Freddie would never cost taxpayers a dime, hope that their constituents don’t notice the burgeoning money pit these mortgage monsters represent. Some $130 billion in federal money had already been larded on both companies before Freddie’s latest request. You'll notice Obama, Pelosi, and Chris Dodd aren't interested in reforming Freddie Mac. No word from Jesse Jackson on this one.

Bartonville Police Department
Chillicothe Police Department
Peoria Police Department 600 SW Adams St.

Improperly disposing of medications is VERY harmful to our environment, water resources and children. Please do your part.
Thanks

Other Sides to View the Muslim "Mountain"
"Muslims in America" by Edward C. Curtis, calling his book 'A Short History', 146 pages, is worth a read if you believe Islam's desired goal is to thrust the entire world under one Islamic caliphate under Sharia law.
This book, written to give non-Muslim America a better understanding of Muslims in America, presents a "mountain" with a different view depending on which side you are standing.
And time of day. Or season.
I (we) oftentimes lump all ethnic and religious groups as one. That is no more correct than Islamic Muslims believing all of America to be similar to Hollywood or the Mexican Mafia and other terrorist type gangs that dominate some parts of every community in the United States.
Or the mad bomber of the Federal Building in Oklahoma. Or Charles Manson and Al Capone.
"Tea With Hezbollah", 'Sitting at the enemies table - Our journey through the Middle East', by Ted Dekker and Carl Medearis is a must read for those who see the looming threat rising in the Middle East. In the authors search for a true Samaritan, one who would "love your neighbor, carry their burdens, and if necessary, lay down your life for them", they find most leaders talk the talk but do not walk the walk. They reiterate that religious fanaticism, distrust of truths, a distortion of facts or conflicting beliefs, and envy are the major causes of the failure of religious teaching to 'love your neighbor' not just in the Mid East but throughout the entire world.

U.S. Illegal Immigration Folly
Forwarded to me by a friend. Thanks also to Michael G. Bautigam of Cincinnatti who asks, "What's so radical about enforcing the rule of law, and allowing law-enforcement officials to ask for documents that noncitizens (and legal citizens) are required by FEDERAL LAW to carry at all times?"
We all know why the laws aren't being enforced but few want to say the truth. The truth? If all the illegals were to go back to where they came from and apply for green cards and eventual citizenship, thousands of businesses would close. We do have enough people to fill the vacated jobs but many would not fill these vacated jobs because they are "hard" work and most anywhere in the U.S., one can get free food, free housing, free medical care, free.....without doing much of anything.
Remember, we are compassionate people. And many of the 4500 people in the area served by just Peoria Public School District #150 between the ages of 18-24 did not finish high school. (JS today quoting a #150 school official) A majority of these drop-outs don't know what work is let alone "hard" work which the majority of the illegals do.(Some drop-outs are pregnant most of the time, despite #150 teaching classroom "sex education" since 1994.)
Plus many Democrats and some Republicans would be voted out of office.
Merle
Let me see if I got this right.....
- IF YOU CROSS THE NORTH KOREAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET 12 YEARS HARD LABOR.
- IF YOU CROSS THE IRANIAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU ARE DETAINED INDEFINITELY. - IF YOU CROSS THE AFGHAN BORDER ILLEGALLY, YOU GET SHOT. - IF YOU CROSS THE SAUDI ARABIAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE JAILED. - IF YOU CROSS THE CHINESE BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU MAY NEVER BE HEARD FROM AGAIN.
- IF YOU CROSS THE VENEZUELAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE BRANDED A SPY AND YOUR FATE WILL BE SEALED. - IF YOU CROSS THE CUBAN BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU WILL BE THROWN INTO POLITICAL PRISON TO ROT. - IF YOU CROSS THE U.S. BORDER ILLEGALLY YOU GET...............................
1 - A JOB, 2 - A DRIVERS LICENSE, 3 - SOCIAL SECURITY CARD, 4 - WELFARE, 5 - FOOD STAMPS, 6 - CREDIT CARDS, 7 - SUBSIDIZED RENT OR A LOAN TO BUY A HOUSE, 8 - FREE EDUCATION, 9 - FREE HEALTH CARE,10 - A LOBBYIST IN WASHINGTON ,11 - BILLIONS OF DOLLARS WORTH OF PUBLIC DOCUMENTS PRINTED IN YOUR LANGUAGE,12 - AND THE RIGHT TO CARRY YOUR COUNTRY'S FLAG WHILE YOU PROTEST THAT YOU DON'T GET ENOUGH RESPECT.I JUST WANTED TO MAKE SURE I HAD A FIRM GRASP ON THE SITUATION...

Hummmmmmm
Think about this:
1. Cows 2.. The Constitution 3. The Ten Commandments ----------------------------------------------------------------- COWS
Is it just me, or does anyone else find it amazing that during the mad cow epidemic our government could track a single cow, born in Canada almost three years ago, right to the stall where she slept in the state of Washington ? And, they tracked her calves to their stalls. But they are unable to locate 11 million illegal aliens wandering around our country. Maybe we should give each of them a cow. -----------------------------------------------------------------THE CONSTITUTION They keep talking about drafting a Constitution for Iraq ... Why don't we just give them ours? It was written by a lot of really smart guys, it has worked for over 200 years, and we're not using it anymore. -----------------------------------------------------------------THE 10 COMMANDMENTS The real reason that we can't have the Ten Commandments posted in a courthouse or Congress is this -- you cannot post 'Thou Shall Not Steal' 'Thou Shall Not Commit Adultery' and 'Thou Shall Not Lie' in a building full of lawyers, judges and politicians .... it creates a hostile work environment.

Carol Van Winkle, County Auditor - $82,078
Nancy Horton, Recorder of Deeds - $82,078
Johanna Ingersoll, Coroner - $82, 078
Administrator and Senior Managers
Patrick Urich, Administrator - $165,000 ( Mr. Urich declined his contract approved 2010 increase to $175,000, according to his statement to the board in 2009)
Russell Haupert - IT Manager - $129,127
Tom McFarland - County Highway Superintendent - $116,373
Katherine Van Beek, Human Services Manager - $115,240
Matt Niekirk, Administrator, B-W County Nursing Home - $113,404
Erik Bush - County Financial Officer - $96,373 (Bush is leaving to take a similar position at a Normal. Il. school at a reputed salary of $130,000.)
Mathew Wahl, Planning and Zoning Manager - $91,808
Lauren Malmberg, Animal Control Director - $85,000
Scott Sorrel, Associate Administrator - $79,101
Dave Ryan, Supervisor of Assessments - $70,133
Vicky Turner, E.S.D.A - $62,347
Virginia Pearl, Executive Secretary - $58,670
Karen Raithel , Recycling Manager - $54,625
Jennifer Zinkel, Promotions Director - $48,818
County Board Members - $8500 with no expenses paid by the County unless on approved Official business. The 8 Committee Chairs receive $9500 and the County Board Chairman recommended his salary be frozen this year at, I believe, $16,000. (I will confirm this Monday on this site)
The County Board Chairman also has an office on the fourth floor and a secretary for his board use.
Salaries for elected officials are voted on by the board and this voting is done approximately 18 months before the salary increase, if any, kick in. This is State of Illinois law. We will be voting on four year salaries for the County Clerk, Sheriff and Circuit Clerk Thursday evening. Effective 12/01/11, each of these three offices will receive a yearly 2% raise if the full board approves the recommendations of Management Services. No raise is recommended for 2010.
Underpaid or overpaid? Yes or no? From my observations, all do good work. Some elected officials supervise far more employees such as the Circuit Clerk as opposed to the Auditor. The fairness of compensation has been questioned by some Board Members and perhaps by some elected officials. Unfortunately, the State has too much say in how these salaries are set and the length of the contracts.
My opinion.
All of the above receive good benefits; retirement, paid vacations, personal paid days off and most of their health insurance. Elected officials may come and go at their discretion. It is the voter who elects them and that is to who they report their attendance, not the County Board.
There are also 85 take home County owned vehicles: Coroner - 1,
EMA -1, SAO - 2, P &Z - 4, Supervisor of Assessments Office -2, Highway Department - 4, and the Sheriff's office - 71.
The County Administrator receives a $500 a month vehicle allowance as well as a separate Life Insurance Policy. And all County business expenses paid by the taxpayer.
The County Vehicle Usage manual forbids the use of these marked County vehicles for recreational or personal use including unauthorized commuting.

The Future of Springdale Cemetery?
Emailed to me by a former Springdale Cemetery Manager. I would appreciate the readers comments. Other bloggers may be free to copy and paste to your blog sites with comments as to the future of this local and possible state and national treasure. Please restrict your comments to the Cemetery and not personnel, past or present.
Thanks.

What is best for Springdale?
Springdale Cemetery is a national treasure; she has suffered through some tough times; she deserves to be protected and preserved. However, over the years many promises and commitments have been made by individuals and groups representing what they said were 'the best interests of Springdale'. While most were given in good faith, others were not; I like to think some were the product of hope and 'wishful thinking'.
In the fall of 2002 an agreement was created that drafted the Taxpayer into supporting the operations of Springdale with the commitment by those advocating municipal sponsorship that 'Springdale would be self-sufficient in three to five years'. The resulting Intergovernmental Agreement stated that the County of Peoria and the Park District, together, would assume the first $100,000 of any yearly operational deficit, while the City of Peoria would take title to the property and assume liability for any deficits over $100,000. With the help of grants and donations, the Springdale Historical Preservation Foundation, as the principal advocate of the agreement, would accept the primary financial responsibility the first three years. This at first glance seemed like a great deal for the City of Peoria and its Citizens, but by 2006, the magnitude of the challenge in returning Springdale to solvency was realized and it had become obvious that the commitment of self-sufficiency was unrealistic and could not be met, so the City Council asked the Springdale management to present a five year prediction in the form of a spreadsheet as to when the Taxpayer could expect deficit relief. We took our commitment to the Council and the Taxpayer very seriously presenting what we thought was realistic expectations for our future revenue and expenses; when revenues did not meet anticipated levels, we cut expenses. Later audits of Springdale revealed the 2007 and 2008 deficits were within 1% of the early 2007 forecast. The City's deficit liability for 2007 was $160,566 and for 2008 was $143,982.
2008 was not only an exceptional year in Springdale's modern history, as it turns out it, it was a pivotal year. Besides the reduction in the rate of deficit spending, Springdale was able to finish leveraging a match of over $230,000 required by an EPA grant, saving the Taxpayer that financial burden. The wonderful work and resulting match were accomplished successfully due to the efforts of Tri-County Planning, hundreds of dedicated Volunteers and professionals and a very capable Staff.
The predicted 2009 deficit liability of the City presented to the Council in early 2007 was $110,228; in late 2008 with the momentum of the recovery increasing, we anticipated we could get it down to $74,000. Unfortunately, the soon to be revealed audit is most likely to expose a City liability of around $300,000, equal to the two previous years combined; the 2010 financial picture looks even bleaker.
The Intergovernmental Agreement was well intended; it helped to pull Springdale back from the brink, but it is no longer working and Springdale again is approach a tipping point with a deficit going the wrong way. Sadly, I believe that the financial recovery of Springdale has been led astray by some of the same interests who championed her rescue; I feel their agenda and actions have halted the momentum of recovery and have created impediments to the financial relief of the taxpaying public. It is now the Taxpayer who needs rescue.
The Springdale Historic Preservation Foundation is an organization of noble heritage; in the past it was comprised of hundreds of caring individual and organizations whose only motives were to see Springdale rescued, respected and preserved. The current leaders of the Foundation, many of whom made the original pledge of limited taxpayer involvement, must now bear responsibility. Their narrow agenda, with a singular focus on the older stones and monuments, has demonstrated a disregard of current Family needs and have shown a lack of Taxpayer sensitivity.
So, I offer a solution that I feel will broaden the Foundation's agenda and focus Springdale's current and future leadership on self-sufficiency and the needs of the Families, at the same time placing the privilege of Springdale's support on those who desire and deserve it most. The Foundation leaders have always wanted complete control of the management of Springdale; they have, with the blessing of the City and at Taxpayer expense, pretty much had it for over a year. So, I say, let it be done; let them officially have it; let them run Springdale and let them support Springdale. The Intergovernmental Agreement as drafted in 2002 has become flawed; it has not been precisely adhered to by the City or the Foundation; it should be scrapped without penalty to any party. The County and the Park District should be freed from further required contributions. Ownership of Springdale should be passed to the Springdale Historical Preservation Foundation for a probationary period of anywhere between three and five years, after which time the City leadership will determine the City's future involvement and Springdale's ownership future.
This offers the Foundation leadership a much better deal than was offered the Taxpayer in 2002; over the last eight years the labor of an army of dedicated Volunteers and millions of dollars of Taxpayer's contributions have created a new and better Springdale that, under the right circumstances, has a much better opportunity to prosper and become self-sufficient.
While this may not be the best solution for Springdale's financial dilemma, it may be the most fair.
Pat Lewis

Legal and Illegal Immigrants - BIG Difference
Whether true or not, this email forwarded to me by a friend NAILS IT!
ORANGE COUNTY ( CALIFORNIA ) NEWSPAPER-New Immigrants This is a very good letter to the editor. This woman made some good points.. For some reason, people have difficulty structuring their arguments when arguing against supporting the currently proposed immigration revisions. This lady made the argument pretty simple. NOT printed in the Orange County Paper................... Newspapers simply won't publish letters to the editor which they either deem politically incorrect (read below) or which does not agree with the philosophy they're pushing on the public. This woman wrote a great letter to the editor that should have been published; but, with your help it will get published via cyberspace! From: "David LaBonte" My wife, Rosemary, wrote a wonderful letter to the editor of the OC Register which, of course, was not printed.. So, I decided to "print" it myself by sending it out on the Internet. Pass it along if you feel so inclined. Written in response to a series of letters to the editor in the Orange County Register: Dear Editor: So many letter writers have based their arguments on how this land is made up of immigrants. Ernie Lujan for one, suggests we should tear down the Statue of Liberty because the people now in question aren't being treated the same as those who passed through Ellis Island and other ports of entry. Maybe we should turn to our history books and point out to people like Mr. Lujan why today's American is not willing to accept this new kind of immigrant any longer. Back in 1900 when there was a rush from all areas of Europe to come to the United States, people had to get off a ship and stand in a long line in New York and be documented. Some would even get down on their hands and knees and kiss the ground. They made a pledge to uphold the laws and support their new country in good and bad times. They made learning English a primary rule in their new American households and some even changed their names to blend in with their new home. They had waved good bye to their birth place to give their children a new life and did everything in their power to help their children assimilate into one culture. Nothing was handed to them. No free lunches, no welfare, no labor laws to protect them. All they had were the skills and craftsmanship they had brought with them to trade for a future of prosperity. Most of their children came of age when World War II broke out. My father fought along side men whose parents had come straight over from Germany , Italy , France and Japan . None of these 1st generation Americans ever gave any thought about what country their parents had come from. They were Americans fighting Hitler, Mussolini and the Emperor of Japan . They were defending the United States of America as one people. When we liberated France , no one in those villages were looking for the French-American or the German American or the Irish American. The people of France saw only Americans. And we carried one flag that represented one country. Not one of those immigrant sons would have thought about picking up another country's flag and waving it to represent who they were. It would have been a disgrace to their parents who had sacrificed so much to be here. These immigrants truly knew what it meant to be an American. They stirred the melting pot into one red, white and blue bowl. And here we are with a new kind of immigrant who wants the same rights and privileges. Only they want to achieve it by playing with a different set of rules, one that includes the entitlement card and a guarantee of being faithful to their mother country. I'm sorry, that's not what being an American is all about. I believe that the immigrants who landed on Ellis Island in the early 1900's deserve better than that for all the toil, hard work and sacrifice in raising future generations to create a land that has become a beacon for those legally searching for a better life. I think they would be appalled that they are being used as an example by those waving foreign country flags. And for that suggestion about taking down the Statue of Liberty , it happens to mean a lot to the citizens who are voting on the immigration bill. I wouldn't start talking about dismantling the United States just yet.. (signed) Rosemary LaBonte

Stephanie is Back Performing in the Area
Friends and discerning music fans,
Just the usual "week-of" email to remind you that I'll be in town playing with Larry Harms in just a couple of days. Join us on Thursday, May 6 at Basta O'Neill's restaurant on Cummings Lane in Washington from 6 - 9pm (it's a nice early gig; you could bring your Mama and treat her to an early Mother's Day dinner) or the next evening, Friday, May 7 at the Rhythm Kitchen on Water Street in Peoria from 8 - 11pm.
The weather is scheduled to be beautiful and the music is scheduled to be fabulous. Grab a friend, your mom, or the gang from work and meet us this weekend - we will be glad to see you, I promise.
Thanks as always for your support and enthusiasm...without y'all, we'd be playing for ourselves in our living rooms!

Loan Officer at Family Owned Bank as a U.S. Senator?
Lent money to two convicted felons, one convicted of a multi-state bookmaking ring and the other convicted of promoting a nationwide prostitution ring?
As Giannoulias is Treasurer of the State of Illinois, maybe some sleuthing needs to be done. After all, the past and current elected officials are responsible for much of Illinois overwhelming debt.
30% of the Democrats in Illinois said by survey they would have voted to re-elect Blago even after all the scandals were made public. So Kirk can only be elected by Independents and Republicans with perhaps some support from common sense Democrats.

Dunlap Schools Also Have a Lot of Tax Dollars to Spend
Erik Christian, Peoria County assistant Human Services Director was hired by the taxpayer funded Dunlap School District 323 to be Human Services Director. Erik was making $61,277 with generous benefits. At Dunlap he will be making _____fill in the amount but considerably more than he was earning at the county position.
Here again, I do no begrudge Erik for his efforts at upward earnings or opportunity. I amazes me how taxpayer supported schools ALWAYS clamoring for more money can pay so much more than a public body like Peoria County.
As was also noted Peoria County Financial Officer Erik Bush making $96,373 with generous benefits was hired by McLean County Unit District 5 at roughly $34,000 a year more than the tax supported Peoria County could afford to pay. Bush's wife, I understand, was also offered at job in McLean County. No money left in Peoria to hire her for a teaching position which I understand she has qualifications?
Did union scale in Peoria #150 School which hires and pays by seniority instead of merit have anything to do with Mr. Bush's decision?
Anyway, losing these two well-paid County employees to school districts leaves gaps that must be filled and filled soon. Our Administrator says these two employees were leaving on good terms and that Peoria County has "strong leadership and management with a vision."
With over 9,000 KNOWN unemployed people in the area right know it should be relatively easy to find replacements without trying to match Dunlap and McLean County generosity.
