"Here's why. "IMRF, police and firefighters pensions in the City of Peoria went up 112% between the 2006 and 2008 fiscal years ($6.3 million more in annual budget obligations, and growing) compared to inflation of 25%. These pensions are beyond the city's control, as they are set by the Legislature, not negotiated with the unions. Such unsustainable spending will come at the expense of job security for cops and firefighters, with a corresponding impact on public safety, every time those UNIONS GO TO LEGISLATORS ASKING FOR MORE (as witness the union busloads to Madison and recently to Springfield) - and we witness it in every legislative session, they are in effect pleading for the layoffs promised by Quinn (he reneged) and Governor Walker (odds on he won't)." Wise up Peorians, you are being "had" by some of your best friends and neighbors. Advise all who don't have the time to read and clip like I do to just read my blogs by putting merle widmer's blog on the their search bar. Pensions and benfits in the public sector are out of control.
People in right to work states live quite well. I know. I've lived and visited some.
