While we had somewhat different views as to worldly political events, we were pretty much in agreement about our views on local political events. DeWayne wrote from his heart and did not attempt to put down people like myself who often tried to get out the truth and slow the flow of the herd.
He loved the outdoors and his article about the wonders of the Pimiteoui Trail,(which can be found on this blog site verbatim, 7/10/06 under Bartels) was particulary outstanding. It is unfortunate that the Times-Observor in Peoria, where DeWayne did some of his best writing, was closed and the building on Pioneer Parkway sits empty. It was the gain of the communities on the other side of the river and helped the Journal Star by having one less competitor, a competitor which is sorely needed in this community.
DeWayne, your down-to-earth personality will be missed by many of your friends and readers.
My condolences again to the Bartel family.
(Sorry for any mis-pelled words, but to add to the many problems I am having with this site, my spell-check is not working again),
